Finding Ragon

2024, année Ragon ? A en croire la riche actualité des manifestations et maisons d’édition, le centenaire de Michel Ragon a su trouver une place de choix dans les agendas français. Qu’en aurait pensé celui qui n’aimait pas, selon ses dires, les anniversaires et encore moins les célébrations de ses propres jours de fête ? Un ton d’hommage l’aurait sans doute courroucé, flairant les odeurs rances d’une momification à grand train, mais en revanche, le plaisir des retrouvailles, annoncé par une invitation à des relectures, voilà une entrée plus fraîche et stimulante qui semble s’accorder à son regard souriant et malicieux, immortalisé sur bien des photographies.

Will 2024 be the year of Ragon? The centenary of the birth of Michel Ragon has been identified as a significant event in French cultural history, based on the current events and publishing trends. What would the man who did not like birthdays, let alone celebrating his own, have thought? It is likely that a tone of homage would have infuriated him, as he would have perceived the rancid odors of mummification at full speed. However, the pleasure of a reunion, announced by an invitation to re-read his work, is a fresher and more stimulating entry that seems to match his smiling, mischievous gaze, immortalized in many photographs.
